Seymour “Shushy” Freidberg, 89, formerly of Springfield, NJ and currently of Boynton Beach, FL, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
Shushy was born on September 16, 1934, to Morris and Anna Freidberg in New York City. He was the youngest of 3 children, predeceased by Bernard and Vivian.
He was proud to serve and was honorably discharged from the US Armed Services.
Shushy was happily married to Arlene, and they had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before Arlene’s passing earlier this year.
Shushy had many passions in life including the love for his family, especially his 2 children and 4 grandchildren. He loved hockey and was an outspoken fan of the New York Rangers. He cherished the fact that he attended Madison Square Garden when the NY Rangers hoisted the Stanley Cup in 1994. He loved cars and car shows, pinball machines, playing poker and gin, watching Jai Lai games in Connecticut, and classic movies. He loved to travel with Arlene, and spent countless vacations in Puerto Rico, Aruba, and overseas in Europe.
Shushy was an avid joke teller and general entertainer, with a witty sense of humor. Conversations with him always included sarcasm, jokes, and an overall sense of lightheartedness. He was a people person and had the gift of gab. It was hard to travel anywhere without someone recognizing him, or his incredibly unique and distinctive voice.
Shushy’s memory will remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his two boys, Alan Freidberg (Francine) and Mitchell Freidberg (Alisa) and 4 grandchildren (Jacob, Mia, Kai, and Samuel).
A funeral service for Shushy will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 11:00 AM at United Hebrew Cemetery in Staten Island, NY.
Shiva will be held at the home of Alisa and Mitchell Freidberg.
