Samuel Philip Shefts of Boynton Beach, FL, by way of the Bronx and East Meadow, NY was born June 1, 1929, and passed away in his home on June 1, 2024, on his 95th birthday surrounded by his wife and children.
The Jewish people believe that dying on one’s birthday means that you have achieved the mission that you were born to achieve, and that is something worth celebrating.
Sam was known to all who knew him as a very special person, always smiling, always optimistic, full of life. He was a do-er. He was a nature lover, passionate about vegetable and flower gardening, his koi fish pond, and fishing in general. He was a great storyteller, an incredible fix-it man, and lent his talents to whomever needed help. Many who knew Sam have referred to him as their role model or mentor throughout the years.
Sam met the love of his life, Shirley, as next-door neighbors. They married in 1951 and had 72 years of a wonderful marriage. He served in the Army National Guard for 12 years with honorable discharge as First Lieutenant, Artillery Unit.
Sam was a business owner along with his two brothers. They were artists, creating carved glass for some of the most famous restaurants and hotels of the time. Many of the works are still in place today. Sam was the carver, sandblasting glass with expertise.
Sam is survived by his wife, Shirley, three daughters, Janet, Mindy, and Nancy, son-in-law Jim and granddaughter Sofi. He is predeceased by his parents, Nathan and Jennie, sister Faye (Julius), two brothers, Charles (Anne) and Isadore (Judy).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease.
Celebration of Sam’s life will be held at Riverside-Stanetsky Memorial Chapel on June 4th at 11:00am, 7205 West Atlantic Ave Delray Beach Florida 33446
