DELCAMBRE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Virgie Bourque Delcambre, age 86, at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Fr. Nathan Comeaux will be the celebrant. Readers for the Mass will be Terry Broussard and Rita Meaux, with Mandy Luquette, Kelsey Morvant and Rhonda Theriot presenting the gifts. Interment will follow in the church mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with the Rosary being prayed at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday from 8:00 am until 10:30 am.
Mrs. Delcambre was born October 27, 1927 in Erath to the late Eluse Bourque and Mayes Theriot Bourque. She grew up on Jefferson Island and lived her adult life in Delcambre. She passed away peacefully on March 8, 2014 at Lafayette General Medical Center with her family at her side.
Virgie was a homemaker, but worked outside the home as well. In the past, she worked as a clerk with the Town of Delcambre, assisted her husband as a bookkeeper at the Delcambre Service Station, and was a correspondent for the Abbeville Meridional, writing a social column. Virgie was also a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church where she sang in the church funeral choir, and was a member of the St. Anne’s Altar Society. She was also active in many clubs and organizations that include the Good Sam Club (lifetime member), Delcambre Bon-Temps Sams, Delcambre American Legion Auxiliary, Women of Woodcraft, St. Vincent De Paul Society, VFW Auxiliary, and the Les Dames De Mecredi Coffee Club.
She leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Delcambre of Morgan City, Arlene Menard and husband Curt of Delcambre, and Tessie Dugas and husband Clint of Henry; four grandchildren, Mandy Luquette and husband Raywood Luquette, II, Brandon Menard, Dustin Dugas, Cody Dugas and fiancé Kelsey Morvant; five great grandchildren, Gabriel Menard, Kailey Armond, Joshua Perrin, Emily Luquette and Carter Perrin; and her longtime feline companion, Cuddles.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Julius Delcambre, and her brother, Ellis Bourque.
