Funeral services celebrating the life of Matthew “Bama” Pate will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, December 27, 2019 at Evangeline Funeral Home of Delcambre. Yancy Green, Matthew’s dear friend, of Jesus Faith Church in Burkville, Alabama will officiate at the service. Following services, Matthew will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Lake Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 am until time of services.
Charles Matthew Pate was born July 9, 1972 in Montgomery, Alabama to Jo Ann Bilello and the late Charles Timothy Pate and passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019. He was 47.
Matthew, or “Bama” as he was known by friends, has worked in the oilfield with various companies in the Acadiana area. Outside of his work, Matthew spent his time outdoors. He and his best friend and companion “Browning” his award winning chocolate Lab spent many days hunting and relaxing at the camp. Saturday evenings were spent cooking or grilling for family and friends, playing cards and listening to Classic Country Saturday Night. It was said that "that Alabama boy” could cook with the best Cajuns around. Above all else, Matthew was a kind and gentle man with a heart of gold and loved his family dearly. Rest well Matthew and until we meet again.
Survivors include his mother Jo Ann Bilello Bourque; his sister and brothers, Melissa Collins (John Cheramie), Curtis D. Pate and Joseph Brockford Pate (Christina); his niece and nephews, Kelly Plair (David), Martin St. Romaine IV (Erica), Jake Burnthorne and Charles Brockford Pate; and his maternal grandmother, Anita Cook Bilello.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Timothy Pate; his step-father, Cory Bourque; his maternal grandfather, Joseph Anthony Bilello; and his paternal grandparents, Charles Brockford Pate and Lula Frances Sweeney Pate.
Serving as pallbearers are Curtis Pate, Joseph Pate, Heath Zeringue, Chuckie Landry, Scott Duhon and Mike LeBlanc.
