Jesus was born June 16, 1944 in Zacatecas Providencia, Mexico to the late Gustavo Arriaga and the late Juana Martinez Castillo. Jesus was an immigrant to this country and eagerly found his citizenship and home in the United States. He was very proud to call the United States his country, Delcambre his hometown, and his wife, kids and friends his family.
His children spoke of their father and how he was a proud man that worked hard to provide for his family. He was an employee on and off again in the shrimping industry for The Vinet’s and Ocean Harvest of Delcambre, and also worked many years in the oilfield and asbestos plants.
Jesus loved God, his family and all that was extended to them, and lived his life fully with gratitude for the many blessings bestowed upon him. He always had a smile and kind word for those that crossed paths with him. The children shared their father’s truest statement, “A man is not a man if he doesn’t have his word or his name” and he lived by that every day. His kind heart and gentle spirit will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Jesus Arriaga Jr. (Sierra), Julia Arriaga Evans (Brian) and Elizabeth A. Arriaga (Winston); his grandchildren whom he adored, Virginia Carey Arriaga, Jessica Ann Johnson, Tariq Gustavo Arriaga, Noah Joseph Richardson, Malachi Edward Arriaga, Franchesca Guadalupe “Diablo” Regalado, Mio Jesus Arriaga and Maria Penelope Arriaga; and his companion, Judy Laviolette.
He was preceded in death and finally reunited with his wife of 34 years, Bernice Marie Martin Arriaga, whom he grieved and longed for since her passing in 2007; his granddaughter, Allison Hope Richardson; his great grandson, Elijah James Johnson; and his parents, Gustavo Arriaga and Juana Castillo.
