George was a man of the water, his heart more at home on the waves than on land. He made his living and found his joy in shrimping, fishing, and crabbing, working as a fisherman for most of his life. He also ran Vincent Slaughter for years, a well-known local slaughterhouse. Generosity defined him—he’d give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Known for his infectious laugh and love of joking around, George was a man who could always bring a smile to those around him.
In his quiet moments, he was an avid reader, particularly fond of western novels, and could often be found with a crossword or puzzle book in hand. Back in the day, George was also known as a skilled pool shark, winning games with ease.
He is survived by his sons Niles Romero (Heidi),Chase Romero (Jonica), and Paul Krato; his brothers Kenneth Romero (Sandy) and Carl Romero (Ty Haynes); and his beloved grandchildren, Sydni, Scarlet, Sophie, Finn, and Corbin Romero.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Philebert and Nella Romero, his brother Philip Romero, and his wife, Fonda Cooper.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Evangeline Funeral Home, with a rosary being prayed at 6:30 PM.
