Mary graduated from Tulare Union High School and attended College of the Sequoias in Visalia, CA. In 1973, she started what would be a 37-year career working for Thrifty Drug / Rite Aid in the pharmacy. There she met her husband, Joe, and they were married on Oct. 30, 1986.
Mary retired in 2010, and then became a beloved member of the American legion Auxillary.it became her “home away from home.” She also loved her church and volunteered regularly. She was a devout catholic and attended St. Mary’s in Delano.
Mary loved to travel. Joe and she would make several trips during their years together up Highway 1 from Santa Barbara to her favorite spot, the Monterey Peninsula.
Mary is survived by her husband, Joe Torrez Serna; her brother Frank Lopez, her brother Angel Lopez, her brother David Lopez (Janet Lopez), her brother Raymond Lopez (Rita Lopez), her brother Jesse Lopez (Marie Lopez), her sister-in-law Rachel Aguilar, her brother-in-law Alfred Serna and her sister-in-law Loretta Lopez.
Mary was preceded in death by her daughter Kathy Serna; her father Evaristo Lopez (Savitas Lopez); her brother George Lopez; her brother Richard Lopez; her sister-in-law Carmen Lopez; and her sister-in-law Jackie Lopez.
She will also be fondly remembered by her four grandchildren, Erica and Greg Griego, and Daniel and Jaime Hernandez, two great-grandchildren Trinity and Lily, and her numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A visitation for Mary will be held Thursday, June 9, 2022 from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Delano, 707 Browning Rd, Delano, CA 93215. A rosary will occur Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 4:00 PM, 707 Browning Rd., Delano, CA 93215. A mass of christian burial will occur Friday, June 10, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at St. Mary's of the Miraculous Medal Parish, 916 Lexington St., Delano, CA 93215. A committal service will occur Friday, June 10, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at North Kern District Cemetery, 627 Austin St., Delano, CA 93215.
Serving as pallbearers are Kevin Lopez, Jeff Fregoso, Saul Lopez, Jesse Lopez, Michael Lopez, Leonel Lopez, Josh Lorta and Greg Griego.
