Richard August Zeleny Sr., age 79, passed away from heart failure on Monday, February 15th, 2021 on his way to St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK.
Richard was survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Frances M. Zeleny, and devoted children: son, Richard A. Zeleny Jr. and wife, Ashley Scarberry; daughter, Christine F. Zeleny; and daughter, Jennifer M. Smith and husband, Olin “Eli” Smith. He also had four loving grandchildren: Evan Zeleny, Kori Scarberry, Kiera Scarberry, and Oriana Smith.
Richard was born in Omaha, Nebraska on January 4, 1942, and graduated from South High School on June 10, 1960. He married Frances M. Cisar on November 27, 1965. He was drafted into the United States Army on April 18, 1966. During the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Germany. His rank was an SP5. After returning safely home, he was discharged on March 29, 1968.
After the military, he worked at a company called Aero Commander, then worked for Cardinal Pools as a pool technician. He also worked at an American data storage company originally called MPI later to be finally called Seagate. He worked there for several years as a material handler. After years of being a dedicated employee for these companies, he finally retired in 2000 from Seagate.
Richard was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He had a generous, loving, and mischievous spirit that will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Monday, February 22, 2021 from 4-8 p.m. and a funeral service on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 2 p.m. at the Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 5005 SE 29th St in Del City, OK. Burial to follow at the Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery (Arlington Memory Gardens) located at 3400 N Midwest Blvd in Midwest City, OK.
