Minnie Lee Maggard Canfield

Minnie married Harley Canfield when she was 17 years old and they were married for 74 years. Harley worked long hours outside the home and Minnie ran their household like a well-oiled machine. Everything had a place, and she knew right where that place was. She never drove, so her days were spent at home being a nurse, teacher, caregiver, cook, seamstress, housekeeper, bookkeeper and playmate to her children and grandchildren.

She had old-fashion values. She would tell you her husband had the final word, and he did, but I would bet she strategically without his knowledge swayed his decision in the direction she preferred. If she was a guest in your home for dinner, she would be in your kitchen helping you prepare the meal and doing the dishes after the meal.

Minnie had a deep love for her grandchildren. She spent hours on end making memories with them that they will never forget….working puzzles, coloring, playing board games, putting green stamps in books, giving them her little black coin purse for the ice-cream truck. She was the epitome of grandma.

Those who knew her well, also knew, she could be a little spitfire. You didn’t cheat, lie, steal or disrespect her, because she had no problem putting you in your place, or if you were her grandchild, pulling her little black belt out of her purse and straightening you up.

She will be missed so much, but she will live on through the values, strengths and love that she passed on to all us.

Minnie is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 74 years, Harley Lee Canfield; six siblings, Ivy, Jasper, Lane, Willie, Dennis and Viola. Survivors include her children, Wayne Canfield and Marilyn Lamrouex; five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one sister, Addie Vincent.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Arlington Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Condolences may be offered at www.eisenhourfuneral.com
