LaVonne M. Hicks, 85, of Del City, passed away December 29, 2017 in Oklahoma City. She was born August 29, 1932 in Cold Springs, Oklahoma, the daughter of William “Halbert” Sr., and LaHoma (Bearden) Hicks. LaVonne grew up on a farm in Kiowa County. She played basketball for the Snyder Public Schools and was a graduate of Snyder High School. LaVonne spent her entire working career working in the family practice medical field. She worked in medical clinics in Edmond and Midwest City. LaVonne had been a resident of Midwest City/Del City area since 1959. She enjoyed bingo, flower gardening and bird watching. She was a founding member of the Centennial Rodeo Opry where she also volunteered. Since 1987, she was a faithful patron of Cattleman’s Restaurant in Stockyards, where her picture hangs on the wall with other famous celebrities. She never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting with people. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Harrison Lee Stanford, her brother, H. “DeWayne” Hicks, and sister, Georgia Mae Lee. She is survived by her husband, Jack Hicks of Del City; children, Marvin Stanford and wife Kelly of Oklahoma City, Calvin Stanford and wife Debbie of Del City, Brenda Roberson and husband Rick of Grand Prairie, Texas, LaVina Bergland and husband Mike of Oklahoma City, Germaine Hicks of Moore and Selena Marrs and companion David Jones also of Moore; sister, Pat Nichols and husband Jim Bob of Oklahoma City, and brother, W. H. “Junior” Hicks of Mountain Park; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be at the Centennial Rodeo Opry, 2221 Exchange Ave. in Stockyards City (OKC), on Wednesday, January 3, at 4:00 PM. with Pastor Russell Bishop officiating.
Viewing will be at Bill Eisenhour SE Funeral Home, in Del City, Tuesday, January 2, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
