Harley Lee Canfield

Harley Lee Canfield was born to Elmer and Ella Canfield in Norman, Oklahoma on February 15, 1920 and went to be with Jesus on March 14, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Minnie Lee Canfield, his son, Wayne Canfield, daughter, Marilyn Lamrouex, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He retired from Townley's Dairy after 48 years. Harley started with the dairy milking cows by hand and retired as plant foreman. In those 48 years, working 50 to 60 hour weeks, Harley missed less than a handful of days.

When we think about our beloved husband, father and grandfather these qualities come to mind:

Devoted

Humble

Hard working

Never lie

Never curse

Never spoke ill of another

Never complain

Slow to anger

Strong Will; and

Gentle

The family would like to share a couple of memories that demonstrate these qualities.

When Harley's daughter, Marilyn, was around 8 years old, she was invited to Sunday school on Easter Sunday with her best friend. Marilyn wanted to go but was ashamed to go without a nice dress, but knew the family couldn't afford one. Being the loving father he was, Harley discussed it with his wife, put together the last few dollars he had and surprised Marilyn by taking her shopping for an Easter dress.

Harley was a smoker from a young age but when his beautiful (as he called his wife Minnie) developed asthma he decided to give it up. He bought his very last pack and placed the pack in his shirt pocket and carried it there unopened for month's demonstrating his strong will and total devotion to his family.

His grandkids recall not one certain story but one ongoing story of a man who worked tirelessly for his family, who never seemed to fear anything, who spoke very few words and the ones he did were never negative, who never complained about aches, pains, sickness, lack of sleep, and no matter what was asked of him by his family, he complied.
