Dan is survived by his wife, Nenita Escalona Marrs, and his four (4) children, Danny Marrs, married to Krystal, Edna Truitt, married to Matt, Ed Marrs, married to Marti and Mary Lamons, married to Russell. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, and five (5) great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Smith Marrs and paternal grandmother, of Salem, W VA.
Dan was born on December 15th, 1939, in Salem, W VA to Daniel Wentz Marrs, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Smith. Graduating from Salem High School, he attended Salem College, for his Associate Degree. In his 20s, he served in the Army for two (2) years. He then worked in the Norfolk shipyards on naval ships, like the Enterprise, installing radiation shielding. He went on to serve for 21 years in the US Air Force, retiring as a Master Sgt. After his military retirement, he graduated from University of Oklahoma with a Master’s Degree in Business. He went on to teach Business computer application at Rose State College, until his second retirement.
He married Nenita Escalona his Filipina sweetheart, in 1967. Tinker AFB in Oklahoma was his final military post. His children remember him as an honest, sarcastic, fair patriarch who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Dan was a published author, an avid golfer, competitive bowler and often spent his days watching his kids and grandkids pursue their athletic activities. He was a generous, witty, dedicated father who loved his family and who was passionate about them and all of their endeavors.
The Viewing will be Monday, August 28th, at Sunny Lane Funeral Home located at 4400 SW 29th, Del City, OK from 4 pm until 8 pm. We will be having a memorial service on Tuesday, August 29th , at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. The cremation will take place immediately after. Celebrant Greg Earls will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dan's life. The family would like to thank the hospital staff for their efforts. Flowers may be sent to Sunny Lane Funeral Home and donations can be made to the Air Force Association in Dan’s name.
