Rosalie Young Tutwiler McCool, 97, retired teacher, died on August 3, 2015 at Willowbrooke Court in Magnolia Trace in Huntsville, AL. She was born in Greensboro, AL on November 15, 1917 as the third daughter of Pascal Ashe Tutwiler, Jr. and Virginia Pope Tutwiler. Mrs. McCool had two sisters and a brother who preceded her in death and one brother who survives Rosalie, Strudwick Tutwiler. She was also preceded in death by husband of 68 years, James Allen McCool who died in July of 2010.
Mrs. McCool is survived by her daughter, Rosalie M. Smith of Huntsville, AL and her son and daughter-in-law, James A. McCool, Jr. and Jill McCool of Birmingham, AL. She had eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Aunt Rosalie was also beloved by her many nieces and nephews.
Rosalie graduated from Greensboro High School in 1934 where she was valedictorian and president of her class. She received a B.A. degree from the University of Montevallo with honors in 1938. While there, she was a class representative in the student government, vice-president of the Senate and a member of Kappa Delta Pi. Rosalie earned an M.A. degree from the University of Alabama in 1939. She taught in Fayette County schools for three years where she met and married James Allen McCool in 1942. They moved to Decatur, AL in 1953. She taught English and Social Studies in Decatur School System for 18 years. She was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Le Club Entre Meres and AEA. Rosalie was an active member of Central United Methodist Church, having served as president of United Methodist Women and as a member of the Bell Choir. She was also a regular member of the Good Fellowship Class where she served for many years as the pianist.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 2:00pm at Central United Methodist Church with a time of visitation from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at the church. Burial will be beside her husband at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur, AL. Roselawn Funeral Home has the honor of assisting the family.
