Funeral service for Robert Leslie Compton, 80, of Trinity, Alabama, will be Sunday, March 10th at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Jackie Kay officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing. He will be placed in the Roselawn Mausoleum following the service. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the funeral.
Robert went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2013.
He was born March 23, 1932 in Decatur, Alabama, to the late Leslie Denver and the late Nolia Grant Compton.
He was a graduate of Riverside High School, served in the US Coast Guard and was a Korean War Veteran. He was the CEO/President of Compton Properties and as a community leader he was instrumental in the growth and progression of Decatur and its surrounding areas. As a builder and developer he established numerous subdivisions in Decatur. He served as past president and member of the Decatur Homebuilder Association and member of the Alabama Homebuilders Association.
He loved traveling the world and visited many countries and he was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He was a member of Central Park Baptist Church in Decatur.
He is survived by his loving wife, Doris Poole Compton; three daughters, Jennifer Cole (WK “Junior”), Donna Garrett, and Kathy Cagle along with their mother, Helen Daily Compton, all of Decatur; and a granddaughter, whom he adored, Elizabeth “Beth” Garrett of Auburn. He is also survived by his siblings, Marjorie Smith, Dr. William “Bill” Compton (Jessie), Shirley Terry (Marvin). He also leaves dear friends, Gene Lentz and Johnny Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and his devoted 4 legged companions, Bo and Max.
