Lloyd Kelly Barnett of Decatur, AL passed away on November 29, 2018. His visitation will be on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 1:00 PM. The Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00PM at Roselawn Funeral Home with Richard Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery with a Masonic Graveside Service.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley Faye Barnett, son Steve Barnett (Lisa) of Decatur, daughter Gwen Rolape (Ralph) of Orlando, Florida and son Greg Barnett of Decatur. Lloyd has three grandchildren Scott Sandlin (Sarah), Kristen Garrett (Shane) and Adam Barnett (Athena), three great granddaughters and one great grandson.
He is preceded in death by his mother Grace Kelly Barnett, father G.E. Barnett, sister LaVerne Culpepper, stepmother Clara Barnett.
Bio: Lloyd enjoyed his family foremost along with fishing, hunting, RV camping, and gardening. He was instrumental in Decatur’s Youth Sports helping in the start up of Midget football; Coaching, umpiring and refereeing in basketball, baseball and football. He was actively involved (1970 – present) in the Amateur Radio Club and North Alabama DX Club holding several awards including DXCC#1 Honor Roll and CQ Magazine front cover story. Lloyd volunteered as a weather spotter and Emergency Management Radio Operator (formerly Civil Defense). He was involved with Good Sam Camping Club and Camp Bluebird Cancer Survivor. He retired in 1981 from South Central/AT&T Telephone Company and the Alabama Army National Guard (E9 Sargent Major) with 30 years of service.
Lloyd was a member of Stone River Methodist Church and Rising Sun Lodge 29.
