A memorial service for Lillian (Lil) McGehee Jordan, 83, of Decatur, will be Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 3 pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend Evan D. Garner officiating. Interment will follow in St. John’s Columbarium. Visitation will begin at 1:30, prior to the service in the church parlor.
Mrs. Jordan, who died Sunday, February 1, 2015, was born March 4, 1931.
She graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) where she was an Alpha Delta Pi, Miss Entre Nous, PKA Dream Girl and sang in the A Cappella choir. She began teaching in Huntsville, AL. She retired from Decatur City School in 1985, after teaching many years at Oak Park Middle School. She served as president of AAUW (Pensacola, FL.), was an active member of the Junior League, the women’s golf association at Decatur Country Club, the United Way board, the flower guild at St. John’s, and her Cursillo reunion group. She loved traveling, flowers and gardening, playing bridge and being with her family and friends.
She is survived by her son Arthur Forrest Jordan, Jr. and wife Sandra; her daughter, Celia Jordan Denney and husband Gordon; her brother, Harold McGehee and wife Suzanne; sisters-in-law, Patricia McGehee and Betty Sue Jordan; three grandchildren, Haley Marie Jordan, Davis Jordan Denney and Katherine Ann Denney; nephews, Timothy McGehee, Kevin McGehee, Jason McGehee and David Jordan; neice, Suzanne Jordan Deriso.
She is preceded in death by her parents, the Reverend Howard and Flora Mason McGehee; her husband, Arthur Forrest Jordan, Sr.; and her brother, the Reverend Joseph W. McGehee.
