Ellen Katherine Whaley Mullins, 56, of Decatur, Alabama, passed away on June 13, 2020. Ellen was born December 7, 1963 in Greenville, Alabama but grew up in Decatur. She was the daughter of David Whaley, Jr. and the late Judith Sessions Whaley of Huntsville.
Ellen is survived by her father, David Whaley, Jr.; brother, David Whaley III; sisters, Jennifer (Chuck) McNeese and Valerie Whaley; niece, Eden McNeese; two aunts; three uncles; and many cousins. She is also survived by her devoted dog, Buddy, and beloved cat, Matilda.
Ellen was a 1982 graduate of Austin High School. She attended the University of Montevallo then transferred to the University of North Alabama to study commercial music. She was a talented artist and musician who enjoying drawing and playing instruments. She loved music, the arts, and travel. Ellen was a people person and chose careers where she could interact with others, until chronic health conditions kept her more at home.
Ellen was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. Her church family, friends, and neighbors were so good to check on Ellen and give her assistance when needed. The family is grateful to those who took the time to help Ellen. She cherished her relationships with her friends and church family.
Ellen was preceded in death by her mother and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. David Whaley, Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Sessions.
There will be a private family service in the Memorial Garden of Church of the Good Shepherd in Decatur, Alabama on June 27, 2020 for the interment of ashes. A memorial service will take place at Church of the Good Shepherd at a later date.
