Owens, William I. “Bill”, age 89, of Kettering passed away peacefully on Friday, October 6, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. He was raised in New York and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Bill earned a Bachelor in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1951. He was employed for his entire career by General Motors, Delco Products Division. He retired in 1985, holding the position of Senior Engineer. In his spare time he enjoyed photography, travel, camping, inventing and music. Bill’s favorite holiday was Independence Day and he loved giving the neighborhood a fireworks show. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Ryan Owens in 2002; and by a brother, Daniel Owens. In 2010 Bill married Marian Hager Owens. She survives him. Additional survivors include daughter, Laura (Malcolm) Klein; sons, Robert W. Owens and Andrew (Alyssa) Owens; granddaughters, Rebecca Owens and Holly (Jeremy) Owens-Padilla; brother, David J. Owens; sister, Susan (Eric) Dougherty; and many loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating Bill’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Fairmont Presbyterian Church.
