William Robert Martin, age 96 of Beavercreek, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife, D. Jean (Brewer) Martin, in 2003, and by five sisters and two brothers. He is survived by three children: Cindy Schurr and husband Douglas of TN, Rebecca Nienaber and husband G. Michael of Kettering, and Bill and wife Debby Martin of Bellbrook. Six grandchildren also survive him: Nancy Schurr (Andrea), Emily Stapf (Emily), Mary Nienaber Gadd (Michael), Michael Nienaber (Erin), Sarah Whitaker (Brad) and Lauren Martin, as do nine great grandchildren, and two sisters: Shirley Smith of Springfield and Anna Hansford of Hillsboro. William was born September 21, 1920 in Wilmington, Ohio to the late Robert and Anna (Williams) Martin. He was a graduate of Xenia High School and a US Army Veteran of the World War II era, serving primarily in the US Army, Coast Artillery Division. Following his service he was employed by AT&T as an operations supervisor, retiring after more than 35 years. He was an avid and skilled woodworker and enjoyed working on electronics and computers; he even built his own television and radios. More than anything, he was a proud and loving grandfather and great grandfather who adored all of his grandkids. Friends may call on the family on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the Tobias Funeral Home Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. Beavercreek, OH 45432 from 11AM until 12 Noon. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation. Interment will be in Clinton County Memory Gardens following the funeral.
