Walter Bryan Voisard passed away in his home at Bethany Lutheran Village on Monday, September 10, 2018 at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his son Richard, his mother Cecil Stump Voisard Martin, his father James, his brothers Bob and Don (Judy), his sister Margaret , and his niece, Jennifer.
Wally was married to his wonderful wife of 71 years, Midge (Singleton). He was the beloved father of Steve (Mee Ling), Terri (Joe Gschwender) and Sue (Steve Donegia). He was the loved grandfather of Philip, Lelan, Nathan, Stephanie (Adam), Megan, Nicole (Brent), Walter II, Haley and Brice. He was the great-grandfather to Dani, Baysia, Kieran, Judah, Pixie, Zoe, Apollo, Max, Zippy, Azelia, and Jake. He was brother to Jim and Donna Bisch (Ed) and Uncle to Lynn, Jim (Trish) and Brian.
Walter was born in the East end of Dayton, Ohio. He and his family resided during most of his youth on St. Joseph Avenue in East Dayton and he graduated from Patterson Cooperative High School in Dayton. He entered the Army Air Corps at the end of World War II and was stationed in Oklahoma. After his honorable discharge, he attended University of Cincinnati, married his sweetheart, Midge and graduated from University of Cincinnati in Mechanical Engineering.
Walter’s lifetime hobbies were weight-lifting and swimming. He and his family were avid boaters and water-skiers. In later years, Walter and Midge loved to travel both domestically and internationally. He and Midge were participating members of Peace Lutheran Church in Beavercreek , Ohio and Peace Lutheran Church in Sarasota, Florida during their snow bird years. Walter and Midge also enjoyed dancing, appreciated art and classical music, as well as enjoy attending musical theater.
Walter’s life was dedicated to his career in Aviation. He began as a mechanical engineer at McCauley Steel Corporation (originally Howell) which made bladed propellers for small aircraft. He later became Chief Engineer and then General Manager of McCauley Industrial Corporation, a division of Cessna Aircraft. He was noted for many propeller patents through McCauley. He continued his career after retirement as a legal consultant for high profile insurance cases involving small plane accidents until the age of 87.
Walt, Wally, Dad, Grandpa, Papa, G., Great-Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, Friend: We love and appreciate that you were a person that we could always depend on. You were a kind and generous man always giving love, support and guidance. You were a man devoted to your family and we loved that big smile that spread across your face when we walked back into your home after an absence. Your sense of humor, fortitude, love, perseverance, faith, courage, work ethic, enthusiasm for sports and appreciation of the arts forever shaped our lives. We are grateful that you were ours for 92 years and we will miss you dearly.
