passed away on January 27, 2023 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Tim graduated from Springfield North High School and received his bachelor and doctorate degrees, graduating with honors from Indiana University - School Of Optometry in 1972. Having more than 50 years of experience, he practiced optometry in Springfield and Dayton, Ohio. He never retired, and was beloved by his many patients for his quality care, sense of humor, and empathy.
When younger, Tim enjoyed spending his free time hiking, playing guitar, sailing, and often competed in bicycle races with his brother and friends that were up to 100 miles in distance. In the last 10 years, Tim endured many health issues including inclusion body myositis, a progressive muscle disease that causes muscle inflammation, weakness, and atrophy that kept him from being as active as he was in earlier years. Despite his challenges, art continued to be a lifelong comfort and he enjoyed drawing and surprising his loved ones with his beautiful pen and ink drawings. Tim was known and loved for his ability to coax a smile from all with his infectious sense of humor, funny hats, and quirky impersonations. He was an eternal optimist and always had a way of turning obstacles into opportunities. Tim was an avid football and Indiana University basketball fan. He loved his time with family and would reminisce fondly of their travels to Tennessee, Florida, and Mexico. Tim is survived by his wife Deborah, his daughter Michelle, stepchildren Ian Stoddard and Jessica Anderson, sister Sharon Funk, niece Whitney York, nephew Adam York (Bloomington, Indiana), and brother Dr. Shaun Shafer (Loveland, Colorado).
