Ron graduated from Kettering Fairmont West High School in 1967. There he played four varsity sports: football, basketball, baseball, and golf. He remained an avid golfer his entire life.
As a young man, Ron developed a keen interest in automobiles and motorcycles, especially Chevrolets and Harley Davidsons. He participated in motocross as well as drag racing, built high performance engines, and did custom paint and body work.
In his late twenties, Ron became a tool maker and enjoyed the creative challenges of the profession until his retirement.
His zest for life, sense of humor, and strong moral compass endeared him to people.
His parents Horton and Helen Barrett and his wife Paula preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Joette, his daughter Kelly and her husband Joe Roehm, his sister Linda Sue Borton, and a host of family and friends. Ron was “dog dad” to Simon and Grayson, who will miss watching tv with him.
The family requests that donations in Ron’s name be made to Community Tissue Services, 349 South Main Street, Dayton, Ohio 45402.
A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held Sunday, March 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Rumbleseat Wine in Cross Pointe Center (101 East Alex Bell Road, Centerville, Ohio).
