Rod was born in Dayton, Ohio on January 31, 1952, to Raymond and Evelyn (Hammond) Stites. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1971 and from Wright State University in 1975. On June 15, 1979, he married his former spouse Sheryl (Brown) Stites in Dayton, Ohio, they welcomed six children and later twelve grandchildren. Rod is survived by his six children, Rodney Stites II of Kettering, Ohio, Robin Stites-Kuhn (Brandon Kuhn) of Dublin, Ohio, Raymond Stites of Kettering, Ohio, Robert Stites (Katrina Stites) of West Carrollton, Ohio, Rachel Stites of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Randall “Randy” Stites of Columbus, Ohio and his former spouse Sheryl (Brown) Stites of Kettering, Ohio; twelve grandchildren, Chris Drumm-Stites of Kettering, Ohio, Gabriel Stites of Kettering, Ohio, Elijah Kuhn of Dublin, Ohio, Griffin Kuhn of Dublin, Ohio, Noah Kuhn of Dublin, Ohio, Cameron Stites of Fort Lewis, Washington, Dustin Stites of Wilmington, Ohio, Cain Stites of Kettering, Ohio, Kinzie Stites of West Carrollton, Ohio, Jalen Stites of West Carrollton, Ohio, Carter Frye of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and Julius Frye of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Raymond in 1973 and Evelyn in 1974.
Rod was employed as a pulmonary therapist with The Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati, Ohio where he spent most of his 40-year career and later at Good Samaritan Hospital of Dayton, Ohio. Rod began his military career with the U.S Army in June of 1981, which included a tour in Desert Storm and Iraq. Rod was a proud veteran who retired as Captain in 2012 and enjoyed his work as a pulmonary therapist, which he retired from just a few years before his passing.
A memorial for Rod will be held at The Veteran’s Administration of Dayton, Ohio (TBD).
