What a great loss. Wonderful man and amazing professional! I've been a patient of Dr Terhune for more than 10 years and even after I got married and moved to Cincinnati I kept driving to Dayton to see him and  both my husband and my young son became patients of Dr Terhune as well. I was looking forward for my youngest- two year old to become a new patient of his this year...
Dr Terhune's kind demeanor, caring personality, great professional skills and wonderful staff made two hours drive well worth it! Rest in peace, Dr. Terhune.  You will be missed.  Kazimiarovich family.

My family started going to Rick way back.  He always had a huge smile and a calm caring demeanor.  My husband Kurt enjoyed his frequent visits.  As my daughter Abbey said, he even came to his funeral. He will be missed.  To his wife and family our deepest sympathy, I would have come to his service if I had seen that he had passed. I was a patient of Dr. Terhune for as lonh as i can remember. He always took care of me not matter what or when. He also took great care of my father and even showed up for my father s funeral. I'm so sorry i missed his. I'm sure daddy will want to greet you Dr Terhune

Dr Terhune was the only dentist I ever had in my life.  I was so scared and he just had a way of calming me and taking care of my teeth. He would make me laugh an could converse on just about anything with me. As the years went on I was no longer afraid because I trusted him an knew he cared.  He would always remember the last appointments with me an what I would tell him about what was going on in my life. His staff are the best an just like him. He was truly the best dentist and a generous, kind, gifted man.  I am so sorry for your loss.  I will miss him dearly.

I am very sorry to hear the sad news.  Mr. Terhune had been my dentist since 2002. I had moved back home to New Orleans to attend Xavier University of Louisiana. My parents live in Trotwood, OH. I would come home to get a dental check-up and other services that were required.  Mr. Terhune was always supported and allowed me (mom & dad) to make payments on my account. He never, never turned me down when I needed his services. I am still appreciative.

Mr. Terhune was an awesome dentist. I really appreciate him and how he cared about his patients/clients. I realized that I was not just an account number in his financial book. I am an African-American male and Mr. Terhune would always encourage me to do my best in school.

 May God comfort all of you at this time and as time goes on.  My family extends our deepest sympathy.

I am so very sorry to hear about Rick and want to express my deepest condolences to his wife Terry and the rest of his family.    I knew Rick since high school football and shared classes at BHS.  I always loved to be around him.  He was such a funny and nice guy.  We shared many a great laugh in the times we were together.  I found Rick to be one of the funniest people I have ever met.  (For example, his Coach Volley Roddy imitation is a classic) .   In the past decade or so I had the good fortune of reconnecting with Rick a couple of times per year at the OSU Faculty Club before and after football games.   Usually Keith Plummer or Duane Miracle (also friends of mine) were with Rick, and we always shared a lot of good memories and "busted each others' chops."   We always had a great time.  I will miss seeing Rick.  Rest in peace my friend.

The entire staff of Dr. Rick L. Terhune will greatly miss him.   We have  been together for many years.  Not seeing all of our  patients on a regular basis is a void for all of us.      We know that he will be missed by so many.   Hopefully he will rest in peace and enjoy cross word puzzles and trivia in heaven.   He, and all of his patients will be a forever memory.

I'm saddened and shock by the news.  I was a patient of Dr. Terhune and also knew him through Boy Scout troop 516 that both of our sons attended.  You are and will always be in my thoughts.

Rick was my cousin we spent some time together when we were kids. He comes from a great family and that legacy was carried on through Rick and it will continue through his family ! So sad to here my friend is gone but his legacy will live on forever!

Dr. Terhune impressed me immensely on my first visit as an incredibly thorough, insightful, kind, and compassionate dentist and human being. Though I may have only had the blessing of seeing him less than ten times, I am heartbroken at the loss - and can only begin to imagine the feelings of his family and those who knew him well. Praying for comfort for all whose lives this man has touched, and believing that he is now experiencing more beauty and peace than any of us can ever imagine.

Dr. Terhune was well admired by the Bailey family! No one would ever believe the excitement and anticipation my children would have before going to their appointments with Dr. Terhune. He and his staff were always so welcoming and kind. My youngest was especially fond of him. She's had some procedures that would scare most kids away but that wasn't the case with Dr. Terhune. He seemed to remember little tidbits about everyone. He put all my children at ease and they have nothing but fond memories of him and his staff and we will miss going there very much. We are very blessed to have been touched by his jolly smile and kindness.

My sincere condolences. I remember Rick from Beavercreek HS. I can still remember his infectious, beautiful smile! He always had a kind word for everyone, and I 'm sure that he had a warm and beautiful life. So sorry for your loss 

Having worked together with Dr. Terhune for over 14 years has been more than a job to me.  He was a big part of my second family, which has, and will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for the opportunity that you gave me,  your smile and kind heart will be missed by all who knew you.  Deepest sympathy to your family,  best wishes now and always.

I have been a patient of Dr. Terhune’s for 25 years. I started going to see him when I was 14 years old. In the past years before I met him I honestly didn’t have good experience’s with dentists. Dr. Terhune changed all of that. Dr. Terhune made every visit a pleasant and comforting experience wheather, I was there for a cleaning or having dental work done. He and I always got into a very nice conversation and it would take my mind off what was being done. He was a excellent dentist. He was honest and always kept me informed of how my teeth and gums were doing.  He listened to my concerns and always was able to answer all my questions. He took care of my brother for 25 years and my parents for about 3 years. We will miss him very much and we thank him for all of the love and care he gave us. He was a friend to everyone both his staff and patients. My family and I extend our deepest heartfelt sympathy to the Terhune family and his staff for their loss. Dr. Terhune thank you for everything you did for me. 


Rick was such a thoughtful, considerate, and knowledgeable dentist.  He always listened attentively to our dental concerns.  He knew exactly what to do and how he could help us.

Besides being our dentist for a long time, we also shared interests, hobbies, and just a really nice friendship with him while we were in his office.  He loved trees, gardening, football, and , most of all, his family.  He was proud of you and we could tell that you meant the world to him.  

Please know that if it is at all possible to love a dentist, this is what happened.  He was the best dentist and even a better person.

We will always remember him with fondness.

Our deepest and sincere sympathy to Rick's family and staff.  He had such a fantastic sense of humor, and a very compassionate person, plus a great dentist.  Joe and I have had Rick for our dentist for well over 35 years, and for myself, more like 40+.  Also, a couple of family members were patients for the past several years as well.  We could always count on Rick to be honest and fair, and to even come into the office a couple of times for an emergency.
He and Dana always took very good care of us, and we will miss him terribly.  We are still trying to get over the shock of seeing the notice in today's paper.
For as long as I knew him, Rick was a very gentle man, and a very proud husband, father, and grandpa.  We are so sorry for  your loss.

I had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Rick from The Golden Shear .  I shared some laughs with him, and would like you to know he was a good friend and his sense of humor will be missed. God Bless the family as he will be missed.

It is heartbreaking to hear about Rick’s sudden passing. I’ve been a patient of his for close to four years — with every visit feeling as if I was with family. Rick was not only a fantastic dentist, but also a very kind and caring man. I always enjoyed our talks about eachothers family and OSU football. He was always there for us when we needed dental assistance.  We greatly appreciated that and him.

I am heartbroken to hear of Dr. Terhune's passing. I have known Doc & Terry for over 30 years. I worked for them back when I was a single mother. Katie was little & I remember Lauren in diapers! After all these years, I have never forgotten how kind & generous he was to this single mother. You see, I didn't have enough money to pay for after school care for my son while I worked. When Dr. Terhune heard of this, he told me not to worry. He wrote a separate check every week to cover my expense for my son's after school day care costs! And not only did he do that, but at 2:30 everyday, he allowed me to leave work & pick up my son , so I could take him to daycare! After all these years, I have always remembered that kind gesture that he did not have to extend to me, but he lovingly did! That's the kind of person he was. I moved away for 10 years, & when I moved back & reconnected with him, he asked how long I have been back. I told him 2 years, & he said , Julie, you have been back in Dayton for 2 years & you haven't stopped by to say hello! I immediately thought shame on me. But he laughed & said , please stop by anytime. Well Im glad I did, & just a few months ago, I bumped into him, & before I knew it , an hour had passed. He was telling me about his family. How much he loved them & how he loved being a grandpa. It was an unexpected visit, but Im so glad I got to see him  & give him a big hug. My deepest condolences to you Terry, Katie, Lauren, & Ted. My sincere condolences to you who have grown to cherish Rick, and especially to you who have had the long and lasting pleasure of experiencing his incessant kindness and good humor.   I can only imagine Rick, as I knew him forty plus years ago, but the comments that I read here tells me that he has remained the same.  I considered Rick, and Duane, to be my best friends.  Unfortunately I moved away and failed to cultivate our relationship – oblivious that there would be precious few Rick Terhunes that would cross my path.  The news of Rick’s passing has brought me great pause, as I imagine the loss you are now experiencing, and I contemplate my own loss in becoming adrift.  May God Bless.

My condolences to Doc’s family. Having worked with him, “head to head”, for nearly 22 years,  he was more than my employer.  He was also friend.  We  (the rest of the staff at the office & I) had many good times together celebrating holidays, birthdays, etc.  I will always remember him.  He is a part of my life, & will live on in our memories always.  I will always remember our office cruise to Nassau, Bahamas, back in 1994.  Doc hired a limo to take us all to the airport!   Good times. You will be sorely missed, Doc.

Rick, we will always love you. You told me I was your longest patient, before you started your own practice.We shared many family stories and laughed always. You had a heart of gold and hands that worked dental miracles for my family. You employed my daughter one summer during college and she has great memories of her experience.  I remember when your children were born, and then the great stories of the Grandchildren and how excited your were to be a Granpa.  

Terri and Family, know that he always spoke lovingly of you, he cherished his family like no other, stories of the older mercedes, the sax and the artist....he was so very proud.

My deepest sympathy to Rick and his family. I’ve known Rick since the second grade. We played back yard and school football against and with each other all through school. 

Rick has been our family dentist for 30 plus years. And a dear friend that I will miss. 

Years ago Rick came and spent the night to help me guard our business because we were having multiple break ins. We were in the office and it was after midnight when a car pulled onto the lot. Rick and I both jumped under the desk. It was just one of my kids.

My condolences to the Terhune family on the passing of a great guy.   A short but meaningful memory for me is when after not seeing Rick for 25 years he was kind enough to attend the funeral services of my mother in 2006.  We enjoyed catching up and reminisced about high school football.  That kindness and thoughtfulness meant a lot to me at a difficult time.   May his memory be eternal.    

The Terhune were our neighbors growing up, and Rick was always a friend. He went out of his way at one of our High School reunions to tell me how my Dad had helped him with softball, which I never knew. Thanks Rick! My sincere condolences to his family!

My deepest sympathy to Rick and all of his family. I was never his patient but I was always his friend.  The only times that I saw Rick were during college and at Beavercreek  High School’s 10,20,30 and 40 year class reunions. We always had great conversations.  

Rick was a tremendous football player. He was gaining interest from Division 1 and Division 2 colleges before his senior year of high school. A car accident ended his football career after our first game. I know The BHS football team would had a better record in 1972 if Rick finished the season. Rick’s toughness and skills were real.  His senior leadership was  an intangible that could not be measured. 

I will miss my friend Rick Terhune.

I have been a patient of Dr Terhune for most of my life. He was so kind and personable, and always had a smile on his face (even with his mask on you could tell he was smiling). He always took time to ask about what I had been up to and how my family was. The employees had all worked there for years, so it was very nice to always see a familiar face each time I had an appointment. I will miss him and our dental hygienist Dana, and the rest of his kind office staff.  Prayers for his family, friends, and coworkers. You will be missed!

I was a patient when"Doc" was first out of dental school almost 40 years ago.  He was always so kind as a dentist and friend. I am so sad of his passing. My condolences to his family and his long time dental staff. RIP dear friend. You will be missed by many💜💜💜

James and I have been going to Dr. Rick for a long time. He was always great to work with us even coming in on a weekend to fix a tooth. He put a cap on a front tooth where my old dentist put silver  just so it would look better. He has also been a great friend to us!!

We are heartbroken.  After all of these years he was a friend as well as our dentist.  I was in the dental chair when he got the call from his wife that she was in labor (With their firstborn).  I got out of the chair and he said Hey, where are you going?   I said Don’t you have someplace to go ?  He laughed and said First babies are always late, now get back in that chair!   He always cracked me up.   He was devoted to his patients.   He actually opened his office one Christmas Eve Day and called in an Assistant to work on a tooth  that cracked and was causing me a great deal of pain.  When I got married, my husband started seeing him as well.  I could go on and on, he was just that special.    We send Our Deepest Sympathy to his family and to everyone who worked with him. On behalf of my wife Diane and several of our children and grandchildren, we want to extend our deepest sympathies to the Terhune family and to the wonderful staff at Rick's dental practice for the tragic loss of a really good, caring man and a consummate professional. Our hearts are broken. Diane and I have been patients for 20+ years at least along with two of our now adult children and several grandchildren. Rick knew all about "gentle dentistry" before it became a buzz word. Although a large man, he had the gentlest of hands. We just learned today of his passing (thank you Dana for letting us know). Our daughter Jamie told Jocie, our 4 year old granddaughter about it. Jocie really enjoying going to the dentist and seeing "Dr. Rick and Miss Dana". Jocie came up to me just a bit ago and said "Dr. Rick cleaned my teeth and now he is in Heaven". What could I do other than give her a hug and say "Yes, he is". God Bless.
