Viewing/visitation time with the family will be Monday, March 28, @10:00 AM at Fairhaven Church in Kettering, Ohio. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 11:00 AM with Pastor Ted Zabel officiating. Gravesite burial will follow at David Cemetery. Arrangements are by Tobias Funeral Home.
Richard was born August 11, 1933 in Lancaster, Ohio to Orville and Marguerite Bolar. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1951, Asbury College in 1955, earned a Master of Education degree from Miami University of Ohio in 1958 and engaged in continued education at Wright State University . He married Marilyn June Riker Bolar on August 22, 1954 in Glenwood, Indiana at the Methodist Church. He enjoyed a 34 year career in education that started in Dunlapsville, Indiana in 1956 and concluded in Kettering, Ohio in 1989. He worked as a teacher, coach, principal, and special education teacher from high school to elementary including students immigrating from Vietnam.
Richard is survived by sister Joann Hacker , brother Michael Bolar, sons Randy, Richard Todd, Robb, and Barry as well as 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was able to share his love for the outdoors with wife, kids, and grandkids as he enjoyed camping, swimming, hiking, campfires, card games, family meals that included “homemade ice cream” and ball games of all sorts. Richard was very active in service to his Christian faith as a Sunday School teacher, leading adult Bible studies and serving in church leadership as an attending member of Fairhaven CMA Church from 1967 to 2019.
