Michael J. Cleary

CLEARY, Michael J., PhD, born June 3, 1939, Dumont, NJ. Professor of Management Science, Wright State University, 1971-1996, where he was awarded the Business College Associates Alumni teaching award. Graduate of Norwich University, commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S Army, and the University of Nebraska, earning a PhD in economics and business management. He was a member of the Partridge Society of Norwich University, and had been elected to the Board of Fellows for his college. Founder (1984) and President of PQ Systems, Inc., an international organization with offices in Dayton; Melbourne, Australia; and Formby, United Kingdom to provide products and services that support quality management in all industries. PQ Systems was named among the top 25 Places to Work in Dayton in 2014. Mike was a member of the Miami Valley School Board of Trustees from 1990 to 2014, and of the St. Leonard Faith Community, where he was an usher and sacristan for many years. A charter member and regional director of the Education Division of the American Society for Quality and principal developer of the Transformation of American Industry national training project, he also served as a member of the Board of Directors for Eagle Registrations, Dayton. He led a planning committee for the U.S.-Japanese Business Conference in Tokyo, and presented papers to a variety of audiences in Korea, China, France, Great Britain, Australia, Singapore, and Japan. He is author of Data Analysis Handbook using SPSS (1980) and Statistical Tools for Healthcare (2004). Education: B.S., Norwich University; M.A. and Ph.D., University of Nebraska. Survived by wife of 50 years, Barbara , sons Sean ( Katherine St. John); Timothy (Laura Jackson); Matthew (Liz Hansen); and Dennis (Karina Johansen); grandsons Michael Wyatt Cleary, Harmon Hempstead Cleary; Daniel Luten St. John, Victor Thomas Cleary; granddaughter Johanna Cleary; sister Joan Buckman, brother in law John Rathman, and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Madeline Cleary, sister in law Susie Rathman, and brother in law Richard Buckman.
