Melvin “Mel” Lynn Rose was born in Dayton, Ohio on March 5th, 1935, to Alvin Morin Rose and Mary Alice Purdin. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1954 and as was an Army veteran, serving his country honorably. Mel worked for Mikesell’s as a salesman in the Dayton area for 32 years.
Mel married Janice Loretta Swanson, on October 16th, 1959, his beloved wife and closest friend, at the Forest Avenue, United Presbyterian Church in Dayton, Ohio.
He was a passionate outdoors hunter and fisherman, belonging to the Amateur Trapshooting Association with wins at the Grand American and Mid-American trap shoots. In the summer Mel would enjoy vacationing in Hessel, Michigan at their family cabins. He especially loved to spend time with his grandsons, whether it was teaching them the art of fishing or sharing favorite recipes of chili and fried fish.
Melvin’s parents and brother Dale O’Neil Rose predeceased Mel in death, and he is survived by his wife Janice, their son Alvin Richard Rose, his wife Elizabeth, and his grandson, Johnathon Rose, his wife Sanjana, and his grandson, Christopher Rose.
He was also very close to his nephew Steven Rose and his wife Maureen and their children Matthew and Mitchell Pinion; and their extended families.
Melvin never met a stranger, always brought a smile to those he spoke to, and was deeply loved by his family and friends. A private family ceremony will be held in Plano, Texas at a later date. Condolences may be sent to www.tobiasfuneralhome.com
