Maureen attended Seton Hill College in Pennsylvania and graduated from Kent State University with a major in English. She taught English in Ohio and New Jersey. After moving to Dayton, she received her Law degree from the University of Dayton in 1982. Practicing Law for more than 3 decades as a trust officer, she ended her legal career as a Guardian Ad Litem defending the rights of children.
Maureen Made her home in the Oregon District where she became very involved in the arts. She played a significant role in the Oregon District Historical Society for many years. She opened her home for the district’s Christmas tour and enjoyed dressing in costume and playing kazoo in the fourth of July parade.
Maureen performed in several choirs including a decade long stint with the Dayton Celebration Chorus and danced with the South Slavic Club; contributing to various dancing groups in the area by using her loom to make fabric for ethnic costumes. She was an officer on the City Folk board for several years helping with the events that group put on and was an active participant in the annual World Affair festival until recent years. A lover of Celtic music she enjoyed playing the Bodhram (an Irish Frame Drum). She also took up pottery in her late 70’s.
Maureen’s curiosity and kindness had no bounds; her family and friends loved her dearly and supported her in all of her endeavors.
She is preceded in Death by her parents and Son Michael Moloney. Survivors include her Son Evan Moloney (Robin). Sisters Suellyn Chesal (Frank) and Sheila Soptelean (Ted), Grandsons Lester McCourt (Misty) and Leroy McCourt (Chelsea). Nephews David Chesal, and Sean Soptelean, Nieces Erin Chesal and Michelle Wierzbanowski. 6 great grand children, 5 great nephews, 3 great nieces and 1 Great-Great Nephew, who turned one Sept. 15th.
A a gathering of family & friends for Maureen will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Tobias Funeral Home, Belmont Chapel, 648 Watervliet Ave, Dayton, Ohio 45420.
Maureen will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.
