Our beloved Marian Ruth Posson born August, 23 1944, aged 76, passed away suddenly on February 1, 2021 due to complications from pancreatic cancer. She spent her life in the Dayton, Ohio area. Raised by loving parents, her father Maurice Henry Crow, who preceded her in death, and her mother Sylvia Evelyn Crow who at 98 years old currently resides at Linden House in Bethany Village.
She is survived by husband of 52 years Channing West Posson, Jr., daughter Diane Posson Rohan and husband Nicholas, daughter Linda Joyce Rechtin and husband Jason, and their children William, Tate, and Ella, and son David John Posson.
She is also survived by her sister Linda Marie Koudelka and husband Brent, as well as other extended family and many dear friends.
Marian spent her college years in Westerville, Ohio where she graduated from Otterbein College with a degree in Elementary Education and spent the first part of her career teaching in Mansfield, Ohio. She met husband Chan on a blind date, and they decided to tie the knot on December 21, 1968 in a church wedding donned in poinsettias. They ended up settling in Huber Heights, Ohio. Although Marian loved teaching, she ended up leaving the profession to immerse herself in all the joys of raising her three young children. After her children were established in school, she decided to broaden her horizons and attended Sinclair Community College where she completed a degree in computers and data processing with honors and began working at NCR Corporation for 8 years.
Like many women, Marian juggled working and raising a family, seeking grace and fulfillment while facing the many challenges life brings. Eventually, she decided to change directions and returned to the local school system where she was recertified in teaching and took a job running a computer lab for the Huber Heights school system. Her career was varied and fruitful. She finally made the leap, and retired in 2010 to enjoy the fruits of travel to several countries and around the United States, spending more time with her grandkids, and picked up the new hobby of knitting that she shared with a group of friends.
Marian was also very devoted to her faith. She attended Sulphur Grove United Methodist Church and was on many different committees to serve the church community. In order to reach more parishioners, Sulphur Grove Church opened a modern satellite location in the local YMCA in Huber Heights, and Marian was a huge part of spearheading the endeavour. She devoted herself to family, the church, and God.
In 2006, Marian got the blessing of becoming a Grandma. Her first grandson Will was born and later in 2008, and in 2012 she had two additional bundles of joy to shower with love, her second grandson Tate, and finally her granddaughter Ella was added to the mix. Marian loved having baby sleepovers and spending quality time with her grandkids. As they got a little older she would spend hours playing board games with them, a favorite being Monopoly. And of course,
the teacher in her would always come out and weekend sleepovers would include reading books, doing puzzles or mazes, and other activities that enriched their minds. Her never ending love of learning always came through.
With retirement, Marian and Chan had the opportunity to visit Diane in California and David in New York and Boston. She especially enjoyed multiple trips to Palm Springs to relax in the sun with family while the cold winds blew during the Ohio winter.
Marian and Chan had a long loving marriage and spent most of their time in a beautiful home known as “Crestview” in Huber Heights, Ohio. They decided when Chan had reached the ripe age of 80 to begin a new adventure and sell their home of 42 years and move to a brand new independent cottage in Bethany Village in Centerville. After packing and downsizing they eventually made the big move in June 2019.
While Marian had a fruitful long life, sadly and with heavy hearts we had to say our goodbyes much earlier than planned. The entire family cannot express how much she will be missed. We find comfort that Marian has entered the Kingdom of Heaven and has found a peace that supasses all understanding.
In remembrance of Marian’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Sulphur Grove United Methodist Church (http://sulphurgrove.org/website/) or the charity of your choice.
