Joyce Lynne Jones

Joyce Lynne Marie Jones (nee Hemmelgarn) passed away peacefully at 4:44 AM on April 12, 2022 after a year-long battle with cancer, having previously survived cancer in 2015. Joyce was born in Dayton, Ohio on November 3, 1954 to parents Ivo Hemmelgarn (d) and Doris Hemmelgarn (nee Michael, d) as the middle child of three, and grew up with older sister Judith and younger brother Donald.

Joyce grew up in North Dayton and attended Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic School, and graduated from Patterson Co-Op in 1973 with a focus in commercial art. After which, she attended the Dayton Art Institute and Sinclair Community College, graduating with honors in 1976 with an Associate’s Degree in Commercial Art Technology. Joyce then began a 39 year career in graphic design, during which she created designs for numerous recognizable brands and won multiple industry awards for her work, including the American Advertising Federation (Dayton Chapter) Mercury Award in 2011 for Best Print/Specialty Buyer. She retired from working at Bing Design as a designer and production manager in 2015. From 2016 to 2018, Joyce volunteered her time as editor of the newsletter for American Heart Association’s Mended Little Hearts program, which provides care and resources to children with heart disorders and their families.

Joyce married Mark Jones at St. Rita’s Catholic Church on August 28, 1982. They enjoyed 39 years of marriage, and had four children, Douglas (d), Nicholas, Anthony (d), and Kaitlyn. Joyce was a devoted wife and mother. She is remembered by her family and friends for her playful sense of humor, creativity, and loving dedication to her family. She loved playing board games with family and friends, painting, embroidery, pottery, gardening, celebrating the holidays, family vacations, walks, and spending time with Mark, Nick, and Kaity. Joyce enjoyed doing water and step aerobics, and taught deep-water aerobics at the Beavercreek YMCA from 2000-2005. She and her family are members of the parish at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church. Joyce was member of St. Luke’s Women of Faith group, through which she participated in bible study and made friends with other parishioners and Father Terry Schneider. She is survived by her husband, Mark, children, Nick and Kaity, and siblings, Judy and Don. She is preceded in death by her children, Doug and Tony, and parents, Ike and Doris. Her family requests in lieu of flowers that those wishing to remember Joyce please make donations to Hospice of Dayton, St. Vincent De Paul Society, or St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Beavercreek, OH.

A visitation for Joyce will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Tobias Funeral Home - Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd, Dayton, Ohio 45432. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St Luke Catholic Church, 1440 N Fairfield Rd, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. A burial will occur Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Mount Zion Park, 27 S. Fairfield Road, Beavercreek, OH 45440.
