John was born on October 5, 1928 in Waltham, MA, the only child of The Rev. Kirby Webster and Elinor Calkins Webster. John met Ruby Marohn while attending Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, and the two graduated in June 1951. John then signed up for the Navy and upon graduation from the Naval Training Center, John and Ruby were married May 10, 1952.
John retired from Weber, Geiger & Kalat advertising agency in 1993 after 37 years as public relations director, account executive and senior vice president. He was a member of the Dayton Advertising Club since 1958, serving as its president in 1963, and receiving the club’s 1992 AAF Silver Medal Award. John was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Dayton since 1957, participating in numerous leadership roles. He was president and a member of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio Standing Committee and former member/chair of the Diocesan Council (14 years). Additionally, he was sergeant-at-arms of the Beavercreek Rotary Club for 10 years, has a 25-year pin for perfect attendance, and was a Paul Harris Fellow with three emeralds. In 2007, John was presented with the Rotary Club’s Marion & Matty Pennick Award for Outstanding Community Service.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruby; children Wendy Webster of Rochester, NY, Kirby Webster (Connie) of Beavercreek, OH, Joni Webster of Canton, OH, and Kyle Webster Ketabchi (Jahan) of Mason, OH; grandchildren Alynor Webster, Kelcie and Derek Webster, Bijan and Sheida Ketabchi; and dear family friends Candace Leonard and Koz St. Christopher.
Arrangements by Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton or St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Friends may greet John’s family Tuesday, July 5, starting at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s, 456 Woodman Dr., with funeral services at 11 a.m. at the church.
