John R. Sanders, age 72, a lifelong resident of Fairborn, Ohio passed away peacefully on Friday, December 3, 2021, surrounded by his family at the James Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio after a brief illness with leukemia He was born in Dayton, Ohio on July 26, 1949, the son of the late Carl and Joann (Sierer) Sanders. John is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Kathleen A. (Vanderhorst), whom he married on May 15, 1982; his two devoted children, Dawn M. (Ryan Black) Sanders, Brett M. (Renee Wolford) Sanders; three cherished grandchildren, Bennett, Peyton and Charlotte Sanders; his sisters and brother, Barb Corcoran, Cathy Lewis, Jerry (Deb) Sanders, Cindy (Tom) Traynor; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Janice Bailey, Marilyn Vanderhorst, Skip (Carolyn) Vanderhorst, Bob (Denise) Vanderhorst. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. John was a lifelong member of Mary, Help of Christians Church, where he was baptized and attended elementary school and was a graduate of Fairborn High School. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. John was retired from Navistar after 30+ years of service and after retiring, he enjoyed ushering at the Wright State Nutter Center for many years. Prayers will be said at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road at Grange Hall Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. from Mary, Help of Christians Catholic Church, 954 N. Maple Avenue, Fairborn, Ohio. Interment with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery in Kettering, Ohio. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021. If desired, contributions in memory of John may be made to either The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or a charity of choice. The family suggests the use of masks.
