John Richard Gerhardt

Gerhardt, John R., age 82 of Dayton passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Hospice of Dayton. He was a proud graduate of Jackson High School in Preble County and an active alumni member of the Class of 1957. Upon graduation, John enlisted in the United States Army traveling overseas. He continued his service as a member of the Ohio National Guard working as a jet engine mechanic for over 20 years. Highly skilled in everything mechanical, John worked at Bendix Tool, Frigidaire, and Harrison Radiator – retiring in 1999 as a machine repairman.

John was a loving husband and father. John was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Minnie, siblings – Evelyn, Charles, Jim, Susan, and Bob. He leaves his beloved wife of 24 years, Judy. He is survived by his three daughters Joni (Ron) Stauffer, Krista Gerhardt, Terri Gerhardt, step children; Doug (Tina) Tepsic, Cindy (Doug) Steinke and five grandchildren, Josh(Kacie), Olivia, Caroline, Kirsten, Brad, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.

John loved adventure and embraced life. Whether it was traveling, fishing, gardening, mushroom hunting, good garage sales, a generous slice of German Chocolate cake, or his Tennessee lake community - John always enjoyed a good time.

A private service at the Dayton Veteran’s Administration is scheduled along with a celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s memory may be sent to Hospice of Dayton. Condolences may be made to www.tobiasfuneralhome.com
