DICHIARO, John V., age 81 of Centerville passed away Saturday November 30, 2019. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion and parents, John and Concetta. He is survived by sons, J. Thomas (Carrie and grandson Ayden), and Michael (Sandra Dukat and grandson Mason). John was born in New York City on January 23, 1938. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from City College of New York and a PhD of Science in Chemistry from the University of Arizona. He worked at Mound Laboratories from 1965 to 1993. After his retirement, he taught Chemistry labs in the Dayton area, most notably for the University of Dayton until his retirement from teaching. He was an active member of the Dayton Table Tennis Club from the mid-1960's, and was a partner of the club from 1986 until his death. John was a husband, father, scientist, teacher, athlete and friend. He met his wife Marion at the University of Arizona and they married in 1964. Their son Tom was born in 1966 and Mike in 1969. Life at home was centered around family and friends including gatherings with close family friends at holidays throughout each year. At work, John was a dedicated scientist who took great pride in his work at the Mound Laboratories. As important as this work, John loved teaching at the University of Dayton. He was proud and felt fortunate to have had the opportunity to teach and contribute the lives of so many students. His great passion for teaching led him to receive the Outstanding Achievement Award for the University of Dayton's Engineering Community for 1993-4. John was also a passionate and dedicated table tennis player. As a partner of the Dayton Table Tennis Club, he was a lead in running this organization. John became a certified table tennis coach in the 2000's. John touched the lives of all those around him. He was frequently approached by table tennis players who remembered how much he influenced their love of the sport. His sons were often approached by his former students who commented about his passion and dedication for his students and teaching. He is remembered by his friends and family as a great man, one who was intelligent and thoughtful, kind and caring, who always had a smile for everyone. Funeral service 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the funeral home. Interment Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
