Janet L Riner

Janet will be remembered for her love of education. She retired from Dayton Public Schools after 30 years of service. Janet received her Bachelor and Masters degrees in education from the University of Dayton. In addition, she held multiple licenses and worked with students with disabilities, the gifted program, and curriculum. Those who worked with her noted her passion and energy, and how she never lost faith in the children that she served. Janet had a special gift to motivate children to believe in themselves, and accomplish goals that they never thought possible. In short, she believed most in the children that believed in themselves the least.

Along with education, Janet loved to travel and spend time with her family. She especially loved the trips that she was able to take with her grandchildren. In her time, she was able to travel throughout North America including Alaska, and visit Europe, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Her enthusiasm for travel was closely matched by her enjoyment of home improvement projects, and gardening.

Janet is survived by her four children Renee (Jeff Brown), Diana, Christopher (Molli Riner), and Megan (Geoff Loh) along with her eight grandchildren, Thomas, Dylan, Sean, Patrick, Sophia, Charlie Rex, Lilly Kate, and Rosemary, who were her greatest treasures. She was also blessed with a large extended family whose help and support during her final days brought her peace and comfort. Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Rex and her mother Laura Maniaci.

The viewing will be held on Thursday March 30th, 2023, from 6-8 PM at Tobias Funeral Home (5471 Far Hills Ave, Dayton, OH 45429). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday March 31st, 2023, at 11 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church (1322 Brown St, Dayton, OH 45409). Following the Mass, internment will take place at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens (8200 W National Rd, New Carlisle, OH 45344). A celebration of life for Janet will be held at the Barn at Polen Farms between the hours of 2-6 PM on Friday March 31,2023 (5099 Bigger Rd, Dayton, OH 45440).
