Jane Kellogg Weltz, a beloved longtime resident of both Waynesville and Centerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 84. She was surrounded by her loving family and close friends at Bethany Village in Washington Township.
Jane was born on November 28, 1940, in Kenton, Ohio, to Dale J. Kellogg and Florence (Schope) Kellogg. She spent her early years on the family farm in Forest, Ohio, and attended Forest Elementary and High School. She later earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music from Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, where she was an active member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.
Jane devoted 35 years to a distinguished career in education, beginning in New Carlisle, Ohio, and later teaching elementary music in the Wayne Local Schools. Her dedication and excellence in the classroom were recognized with the Project Excellence Award in 1991, an honor she was nominated for by a fellow educator.
On November 5, 1968, Jane married the love of her life, James Fredrick Weltz, at St. George's Episcopal Church in Dayton. Together, they shared a passion for travel—frequently visiting Williamsburg, Virginia, and Europe with dear friends Margie and Bob Neff. They enjoyed antiquing, volunteering at their church, and singing in the church choir. Jim and Jane were avid Ohio State University football fans and attend as many games as possible.
In her later years, Jane continued to share her musical talents with Center Stage, a choir that performed during holidays at churches, retirement homes, and community events. She was also a cherished member of the vocal trio Just the Three of Us, which performed at numerous gatherings.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents Dale and Florence, and her older brother Thomas R. Kellogg. She is lovingly remembered by many generations of nieces and nephews all of whom are heartbroken to say goodbye. Additionally, her very special friend Mr. William Scharff of New Carlisle will greatly miss her.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16, at St. George’s Episcopal Church on 5520 Far Hills Avenue in Dayton, Ohio followed by a funeral service. Afterwards she will be laid to rest beside her husband Jim at the Corwin Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Hospice of Dayton in Jane’s memory.
