Jim was a caring son, brother, uncle, Godfather and friend taken away too soon from his loved ones by a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was happiest with sand in his toes and salt in the air, his favorite beaches being on the islands of Hawaii and the Outer Banks in North Carolina. He was active in his church community at St. Helen’s Parish and lovingly referred by his family as “Uncle Monkey” due to his playful spirit and rather large ears. He graduated class of 1975 from Stebbins High School and attended Sinclair College for Legal Studies as a paralegal. Prior to that he was a machine operator at Delphi and later in life worked security for his local library.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Paul Courter, mother Kathleen Courter, brother Ronald “Ron” Courter and nephew Rusty Courter.
Jim is survived by his brothers Mike Courter and Robert “Bob” Courter and sisters-in-law Cathy Courter and Barbara “Barb” Courter, Marsha Courter, nieces Laura (Dave) Crouse, Amy (Tom) Underwood, Bridget (Terry) Bartlett, Rhyan Courter, and Molly Jones, and niece-in-law Victoria Courter and nephew Scott (Lisa) Courter, great nephews and nieces Wade, Kyndra, Saxony, Marisa, Jacob, Natalie, Lindsey, Luke, Arielle, Kierra, Clayton, Sya and Jace, great-great niece and nephews Sofia, Sylus, Ezekiel and Miles.
The viewing will take place on Friday, May 28, 2021 from 9:30-10:30am at Tobias Funeral Home (3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432). Face masks and social distancing inside required.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place after at 11:00am at St. Helen’s Parish (5100 Burkhardt Rd, Dayton, Ohio 45431). Face masks and social distancing inside required.
Burial to follow at St. Brigid Cemetery in Xenia, Ohio.
