Abele, James L. (Jim), age 87 of Kettering, died July 25, 2013. James was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Helen (Leonard) Abele and his brothers: Larry, Thomas, William, Richard, Jerry and sisters Mary and Sr. Teresilda (Dorothy), C.P.P.S.. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Catherine (Hoying) Abele and eight children: Jim (Mary) Abele, Cincinnati; Denise (Dr. Matthew) O'Connell, Centerville; Diane (Ted) Hobson, Columbus; Susan (Patrick) Ryan, Cleveland; Patricia(Jeff)Willoughby, Akron/Canton; David (Kathy) Abele, Cincinnati; John Abele, Cleveland; Kevin (Kim) Abele, Cincinnati; and 25 grandchildren: Catherine and Michael Abele; Meghan, Colleen (Smyth), Caitlin, Erin and Daniel O'Connell; Gerrit, Jackie, Maggie and Ben Hobson; Colin, Kevin and Patrick Ryan; Jennifer and Matthew Willoughby; Nicholas, Matthew and Claire Abele; Adam, Alicia and Aaron Abele; Maria, Christina and Dominic Abele. He is also survived by his sister Sr. Valeria, C.P.P.S. Jim Graduated from University of Dayton in 1950 - B.S. in Education, and Miami University in 1953 - M. Ed. He worked in education, for over forty years, as a teacher, principal and Superintendent at Fort Loramie, New Bremen and Incarnation Schools and at Werner Junior High School in Xenia. He holds a state superintendent's certificate and a permanent high school teaching certificate. He was a member of the American and Ohio Association of School Administrators, Ohio Association of Local School Superintendents, and Western Ohio Superintendents' and Principals' Roundtable. He was an involved member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church where he served on the parish council, education commission and worship commission and a member of most church committees at some time or another, most recently as Eucharistic Minister and member of the funeral choir. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 4022.Visitation at Tobias Funeral Home, 5741 Far Hills Avenue, on Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial at 12:00 noon on Monday at St. Albert's Catholic Church.
