Frank M. Abate

ABATE, Frank M. age 90 of Centerville passed away at home on June 24, 2014. He was born October 3, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Mario and Maria Cincotta Abate. He is survived by his loving wife Mary of 71 years, sister-in-law Alice Abate, preceded in death by his only brother (Vincent F. Abate) of Xenia, Ohio. Survivors also include Frank's nephews and nieces, Maria Abate, Robert M. Abate, Thomas (Carol) Abate, Tina Abate (Greg) Atkins and numerous grandnephews and grandnieces of Dayton, Youngstown, and Kent, Ohio and the Marietta Georgia, and Florida areas. He graduated from the Manhattan School of Aviation Trades 1941. In January 1942 he came to Dayton and worked at WPAFB in Aircraft Maintenance. In December 1942, Frank enlisted in the US Army Air Corps where he spent three years in the service for his country; one year of which he was in the China Burma India Theatre. Upon returning went back to work at WPAFB continuing in Aircraft Maintenance. In 1955 he transitioned to the Air Force Logistics Command as an Allowance Officer where he was responsible for establishing equipment requirements and documentation of Equipment Component Lists in support of Major Air Commands. He was particularly proud of his role in fulfilling the needs of aircraft support during the Vietnam conflict and was thankful to those participating members who assisted in the effort. He retired after 35 years of service. When physically able he enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi in Centerville, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. Family and friends are invited to the viewing 9:30 to 10:30 AM Friday, June 27, 2014 at Calvary Cemetery Chapel 1623 Calvary Dr. Kettering, Ohio; where Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM.
