Dorothy Anne Getty

GETTY, Dorothy Anne “Dotty” Age 85 of Bethany Village, Centerville, Ohio died Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Kettering Medical Center. She was a 1948 graduate of Wilbur Wright High School, graduating with a Bachelors of Art from Miami University in 1952, where she was an active member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Dotty worked in personnel for Sheffield Gage, as a social worker for the Montgomery County Welfare Office, as a Red Cross Volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospital and Wright Patterson Medical Center, and for the Fairborn Chamber of Commerce. Dotty was born on May 28, 1930 in Taylor County, Kentucky to the late F. Dwight Elliott and Anne White Elliott. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law Dr. Lawrence H. Getty and Helen G. Getty and brothers-in-law Kent Benbow and John Getty. She is survived by her husband of 59 ½ years, James Nelson Getty, whom she married on April 14, 1956; one sister Virginia Arkens of Hendersonville, NC; a son, David Scott Getty of Coppel, TX; a daughter, Jane Getty Nolan and husband Mike of Plano, TX; grandchildren, Nolan Getty, Laura Getty, Sarah Nolan and Patrick Nolan, all of Texas; and nephew, Dr. Mark Benbow and wife Annette of Falls Church, VA. Dotty’s life has been one of service to her Lord and the community. She sang in the Westminster Presbyterian Church Choir, was a Deacon at Fairmont Presbyterian Church, and was a member of PEO and of College Women’s Club. Visiting Chautauqua Institution, NY, for 25+ summers with Jim, Dotty became a member of CLSC – Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle, class of 1994. Dotty and Jim enjoyed traveling and going to the theater, but mostly they just enjoyed spending time together. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday November 14th, 2pm at Fairmont Presbyterian Church, 3705 Far Hills Ave, Dayton, Ohio.
