FREBIS, Diana Marie (Spoerl), 61, of Dayton, passed peacefully at Miami Valley Hospital after a brief illness on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, surrounded by family. Diana attended Immaculate Conception School and Carroll High School in Dayton. She began her employment at Standard Register in Dayton. She had lived in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, before returning to Dayton in the past year.
Diana was loved by so many. She loved God with her whole heart and soul, and she shared her faith, her generous spirit, and her kind heart with whomever she met. Diana gave the gift of life through her organ donation. UNOS, the United Network for Organ Sharing, states her gift well: “When there is an organ donor, life springs from death, sorrow turns to hope, and terrible loss becomes a gift.”
Diana was preceded in death by her parents, James and JoAnn Spoerl. She is survived by her daughter, Maria (Jamie) Burkhardt of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; her son, Johnathan (Kristina) of Knoxville, Tenn.; and her four grandchildren, James, Loretta, Jackson, and Emma, all of whom she loved very much. She’s also survived by her eight siblings, Nancy (Rick) Vogel of Kettering, Ohio; Mike (Sybille) Spoerl of Germany; Sue (Rob) Smith of Washington Township, Ohio; Maureen (Jack) Hamby of Columbus, Ohio; Jim (Valerie) Spoerl of Avon Lake, Ohio; Theresa (Grant) Stumpf of Kettering, Ohio; Patty (Roger) Starnes of Sabina, Ohio; and Kathy (Bill) Lyons of Wyoming, Ohio, along with many nieces and nephews and her friend John.
The family is truly grateful for the care given to her in Miami Valley Hospital’s ICU. They treated her with dignity and kept her comfortable and free of pain. The family also appreciates Five Rivers Samaritan Health Center for its support of the mentally ill community and the challenges they face on a daily basis.
A private family service will take place at a later date to celebrate Diana. In lieu of flowers, contributions will be gratefully accepted to St. Vincent DePaul Society c/o St. Albert the Great Church, 3033 Far Hills Ave., Kettering, OH 45429. Condolences may be sent to www.tobiasfuneralhome.com
