On December 24th, 2009, Deb and Kathy Gall learned that they would have a son, Cody Alan, adopted from Montgomery County Children Services, fulfilling their dreams of motherhood and the greatest Christmas gift of all. In January of 2010, they met their son, and he moved in to their family home in May of the same year, and in December, legally adopted him, fulfilling his dream of a forever family.
Cody was very social and loved people. He was always willing to help others, with a little push! He volunteered for Special Olympics and loved being around the kids. He loved animals, especially dogs. He attended Air Camp at Wright State twice and fell in love with flying at the age of 14. He was able to fly twice during Air Camp, which scared his mothers to death since he was so little and couldn’t see above the instruments in the cockpit; thankfully he had an instructor with him! His dream was to become an Air Force Pilot flying fighter jets. However, at 15 years old, Cody was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, crushing his military dream. He then decided to become an aircraft mechanic, “the next best thing,” so he could be around airplanes and flying. He worked hard in online school, grumbled the whole time, and proudly graduated Beavercreek High School early in December of 2019. In March of 2020, he moved to Indianapolis to attend The Aviation Institute of Maintenance. Even though with his certificate he could work anywhere in the world, he always talked about moving back to Dayton because he considered this home and wanted to be near family and friends.
His favorite football team was the Ohio State Buckeyes (because he knew in this family he had to root for them, and he takes after his mom Deb) and the Seattle Seahawks. He participated in a family fantasy football league and loved to “rib” others about their picks, and tried really, really, hard to win, especially against his moms, aunt, and cousins.
He loved choir, music (favorite musician was Charlie Puth, however his moms teased him relentlessly by calling him Charlie “Poof”), Ford Mustangs, football, baseball, reading, watching movies, hanging out with friends, playing games, cooking, (sometimes well, sometimes not so well, even though his mom Kathy tried to teach him well), and making sure his shoes were clean (God forbid if there was even a smudge)! He also loved family vacations, and we visited Kentucky, North Carolina, Florida, Virginia, D.C., Nevada, Indiana, and Arizona.
He is survived by his moms, Deb and Kathy Gall, grandmother, Nila Williamson (nanny), godparents, Ron and Allynn Mask, aunts and uncles, cousins, and godbrother, way too big a family to keep track of, he always said, but was extremely proud to be a part of because he always wanted a family to call his own. He is also survived by his best friend, Nate, and other dear friends in the Beavercreek area.
The family asks in lieu of flowers to make a donation to Diabetes Dayton or to Dayton FLOC, For the Love of Children.
Visitation will be held at Tobias Funeral Home in Beavercreek on Sunday, January 17th, at 1pm, and Memorial Service at 2pm. The services will be online at the Beavercreek Tobias Facebook page. There is a limit of 50 people at the services and masks and social distancing are required. The family asks that you please dress casually, in jeans and T-shirts, wearing Seattle Seahawks Gear or colors, navy blue and bright green, as this would have been what Cody would have wanted.
