Charles “Chuck” M. Combs Jr., age 85, of Riverside and Centerville, passed away on February 25th, 2015 at Oak Creek Terrace (Nursing Home) in Kettering after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Dayton, OH, Aug. 13th, 1929. Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Charles M. Combs, Sr., mother Kathryn L. Combs-Schooley (nee Tate) and sister Betty Louise Sloan (nee Combs). He was a graduate of Chaminade High School, class of 1947. In January 1951 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was a Korean War Combat Veteran. After the war he returned home and worked a string of truck driving jobs, eventually landing one with the Dayton Daily News (Dayton Journal Herald) as a truck driver, where he retired in 1988 after 29 years. Chuck survived the passing of his wife Marjorie A. Combs (nee Jaeggi) in 1992. Remaining a widower for nearly 23 years, he is survived by his three children: Dennis Combs (Susan Baldwin), Douglas Combs (Ann Riepenhoff), and daughter Diane Combs Neel (Rodney Quinn). He was the proud grandfather of 8 grandchildren: Daniel Combs, Jeremy Combs, Matthew Neel, Erin Combs, Christopher Neel, Elizabeth Combs, Lindsey Combs and Nicholas Neel, and 3 great-grandchildren: Tyler Bucci, Olivia Combs and Theodore (Teddy) Combs, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Chuck was an amateur HAM radio enthusiast (KB8LIC), enjoyed tinkering in his garage, telling jokes and loved the wind in his face. He owned several different motorcycles over the years, but his favorite was his ’88 Harley Tour Glide. Chuck was a lifetime member of the Milton Club, VFW and American Legion. He was a strong presence in his family and will be deeply missed. In 2004 he made arrangements to donate his remains to the Anatomical Gift Program, Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University where he hoped to provide a teaching opportunity for medical students. The family will receive friends at a memorial gathering on Saturday, March 7th, 2015 from noon until 2:00 pm at Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road.
