Gallagher, Carol Jean, age 73, of Dayton, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Hospice of Dayton. Born June 12, 1940, in Dayton, Ohio, she enjoyed being with family, taking long walks with her dogs, talking with neighbors, watching St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball games and working in the yard. In her youth, she worked in several area nursing homes and was an aid to a home bound elderly patient. In the years that followed, she worked for Kellermeyer Services and later at Value City Department Store, where she finished her career in 2002. She also frequently attended Mt. Olive Free Will Baptist Church, where she had many dear friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Thelma (Snowden) Gallagher and her brother Clarence “Butchy” Gallagher. She is survived by her daughter Charmaine Kay (Gallagher) Shaffer (husband, Loyd “Bob” Shaffer); her one & only granddaughter, Ashley Marie (Shaffer) Blum (husband, Geoffrey Blum) and her 2 month old great granddaughter Elizabeth Marie Blum with along with several cousins and other relatives. The funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Tobias Funeral Home, Belmont Chapel with Pastor Hollie VanHoose officiating. Burial in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may visit Saturday from 10am until the time of service.
