She was born July 25, 1931 in Sidney, Ohio to Joseph A. Ratermann and Gladys Ensey Blake Ratermann. After graduating from Holy Angels grade and high school, Sidney, she accepted a scholarship to College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati graduating in 1953 with a major in chemistry. She was then employed as librarian for Monsanto Chemical Company Central Research Division in Dayton, Ohio and has lived in Dayton ever since. Betty retired from NCR Corporation in 1994 where she had worked as systems analyst. She was an active member of St. Albert the Great parish. Activities included Eucharistic minister and Celebration and Funeral choirs. She and her husband traveled extensively both home and abroad. Betty enjoyed her computer, splashaerobics, movies, reading, games, and puzzles, especially bridge, mahjong, and sudoku. She valued her friendships, many of which began through the Catholic Young People’s Club, church and Washington Township splashaerobics class.
Betty’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Robert Charles Roeckner, Sr., four children, Robert (Diane), Cincinnati, William (Karen), Chicago, Richard, Las Vegas, and Anne (Glenn), White, Columbus. Nine grandchildren also survive her: Stephanie, Robert C. III (Patti), Kevin (Jordan), Gregory, Joseph (Adrienne), Alexis Ferri (Alex), Kenton, Alyssa, Emmalyn (Aaron). Great grandchildren include: Blake, Annabelle, and Andy Roeckner and Aurora Ferri. She is survived by her sisters, Kate Custenborder and Barb Brubaker, sister-in-law, Kathy Ratermann, and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, and brother, John.
Visitation and funeral on Friday, September 10, 2021. Visitation from 9:00am to 11:30am at Tobias Funeral Home (5471 Far Hills Ave, Dayton, OH 45429). Funeral mass at Noon at St. Albert the Great Church (3033 Far Hills Ave, Dayton, OH 45429), followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery, and a reception at the church.
