Entered into rest on January 25th, 2024 in Spokane, WA at age 74. She was born August 28th, 1949 in Spokane, WA to Joseph and Martha Cox. She grew up in reardan and attended school in Reardan, graduating from Reardan High School in 1967 as Valedictorian, Phyllis pursued her teaching degree at Eastern Washington College and graduated in 1972. It was there, she met her husband of 28 years, Mel Addington. After Phyllis taught a few years in Spokane, she returned home to Reardan, WA, started her family and resumed her full time teaching career. She taught 1st Grade at Reardan Elementary School until retiring in 2014. Her last 1st grade class will graduate this year.
She was a member of the Reardan Lutheran Church, ADK Teaching Sorority, and the Reardan Memorial Library Board. Phyllis enjoyed traveling, reading, being a grandmother, chatting with friends and playing games, especially pinochle.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law Joey & Erika Addington of Spokane, Jimmy & Ellen Addington of Reardan; three grandchildren Kinlee, Everett, and Logan; her sister and brother-in-law Shirley & Jeff Broyles of Spokane Valley; and many nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by parents Joe and Martha (Wegner) Cox and husband Mel Addington.
Phyllis’s family would like to thank the staff at Sunshine Memory Care for providing safety and comfort for her since last May.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 10:00 am at Reardan Lutheran Church ; Pastors Carol & Greg Yeager officiating. A luncheon and fellowship at the Reardan Grade School commons following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 207, Reardan WA, 99029; and Reardan Memorial Library, P.O. Box 227, Reardan WA, 99029.
