Walt or "Pete" was born on February 18, 1934, to John and Augusta Mildred (Purdot) Petersen in Davenport, IA.
He enlisted into the Navy at 18 years old and was stationed in Norfolk, VA. During a weekend leave, he was set up on a blind date who just happened to be the love of his life, “Erma” Maxine Buchanan. They were married on June 30, 1957 and moved to Davenport, IA. A few years later he got a job working as a diesel mechanic at Altorfer Machinery, and worked there until retiring.
Dad was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was faithful to the teachings of Jesus Christ by showing unconditional love for all.
Dad's favorite past time was fishing, fishing, and more fishing. He loved the saying, "Has anyone told you they loved you today?" and would pass this on as much as he could. His children and grandchildren were his life and he spent every day sacrificing to make their lives better. Mom and Dad won the ‘BEST GRANDPARENTS EVER’ award.
Our hearts are empty without Dad being here but he is together again with Maxine. Well done thy good and faithful servant!
Dad is preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings. Surviving are his son, Dr. Bryon (Cindy) Petersen, Gainesville, FL, daughter, Brenda Anderson Salem, UT, 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and close family friend, Joan Synder.
