After a private family service, she will be laid to rest in Davenport Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa Masonic Healthcare Facility, Churches United Food Pantries or Scott County Humane Society. Online tributes may be made at www.rungemortuary.com.
Sue was born January 14, 1937, to Otto F. and Emmaline (Schoen) Viota in Davenport, Iowa. She attended local schools and graduated from Davenport High School in 1955. Her first job after graduation was at davenport Bank and trust as a bookkeeper. In 1956, Sue was united in marriage to Earl A. “Bud” Johnson and moved to San Diego, California where he was completing a three year tour with the U.S. Marine Corp. While in San Diego, Sue acquired top secret clearance, and worked in the space industry until returning to Davenport in 1959. She worked for J.I. Case, Bettendorf, as secretary to the plant controller and later managed the Fanny May Candy Store at North Park Mall for 13 years, retiring in 2000. She was known as “the Candy Lady” to many mall walkers and shoppers.
She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Davenport for 35 years. Sue established and coordinated the Milk Ministry Program where Grace Members received donated milk for the needy people in the Quad Cities. During the 15 years she served in that capacity, the Milk Ministries provided local food pantries and shelters with 1200 gallons of milk annually.
She was awarded the Order of The Rose from the Beta Sigma Phi International Society for 50 consecutive years of service.
Her pride and joy was following their son’s successful business career and their granddaughters growing into beautiful and talented young women. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will surely be missed.
She is survived by her husband, Bud; son, Mark (Stacy) Johnson; granddaughters, Lauren (Jake) Smith and Abby Johnson; and several cousins.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.
