I had the pleasure of meeting Shawn once.   As a neighbor, I had walked down to spend some time with Maria in the backyard.  I already knew Shawn's sister Kaylyn from subbing at her school and had met Maria a long time ago as she is my kids' ages and they attended the same school together.  But we had reconnected recently as neighbors, including our friend in common, Maureen.  I had also known Maria's mom, Theresa, and grandmother, Marilyn, but had never met Kent or Shawn.  Anyway, when I arrived that evening, I didn't remember Shawn's name, so I asked him what his name was.  He just smiled and wouldn't say.  So, I jokingly asked if his name was Fred.  He smiled again and nodded his head, and that is what I called him a few times that evening.  He and Kaylyn were having a blast, taking turns pushing each other and coasting down the driveway in a Little Tykes pink dolly stroller, running into little orange cones that marked their stopping point before flying into the garage.  Often one of them would tumble at that very moment, but mostly they laughed it off.  He and Kaylyn also made wonderful colored chalk pictures on the driveway with me.  Later, when we went in the house, I got to meet the dog, and play "footsie" catch with him.  Shawn showed me how it worked.  -- Shawnie was everything his parents said about him in their remembrances... energetic, full of smiles, happy, and silly.  I was very shocked to hear of his departure not much more than a week later.   It was hard to believe.  I sure wish I had experienced one of his "running hugs!"  - Peace to the family with a child on earth and one in heaven!

Kent and Maria,

I can still picture you in our Primerica office on River Drive, pregnant and waiting and eager to give birth to Shawn.  When we met him, he was such a little cutie!  All things 2020 kept us from getting to watch him grow up in real life and connecting in person as much, but every time I would see a picture, he always had an ornery or joyful smile on his face, and he struck me as such a handsome little man.  God gave you such a beautiful treasure to have and to hold for a short time, but may all the special memories linger in your hearts and minds forever.  Our hearts hurt so deeply for you, but we pray that God’s peace will envelop you  as you live out the rest of your days without his earthly presence.  Love and hugs and prayers for all of you.  

Little Shawn was such a bundle of energy, with a huge smile and full tilt drive… each and every day!

Kent & Maria, if it would bring you any comfort during this sorrowful time, just think about the tons of joy Shawn squeezed into his three and a half years with you, and know that he’s waiting patiently for you in the loving arms of Jesus.

I really loved it when we would have our play dates and watch them all play. He was always happy and I loved his smile. I loved coming to his birthday party you had for him the one year. He loved showing my kids his stuff and it was fun watching them all on the slide that went down the stairs. I will miss having the 5 together but he will always be there when they are together. 

We loved our days when Shawn came to daycare! Kids would a scream Shawn's here!!!! I will miss his full time...all the time running!!!

Shawny was a sweet, rambunctious little cutie and I enjoyed getting to know him in the nursery at church while you were still at RCLC. He played hard and loved it even more when there were friends for him to play with.   I know what a joy he was to others and his memories will continue to make us smile.

I will always cherish the good ole slap on my rear, turn and Shawn would be smiling at me and say "come chase meeee"! 😂 I will truly miss him, thanks for coming into our lives, we were and are blessed to know your family.


I remember watching Shawn when he was still very small, while Marc had a trumpet lesson with Maria. He was always such an adorable and happy little guy! He would  play contently in his entertainment seat or crawl up and down the stairs or have a snack without complaint or comment, while Bandit begged to have a toy tossed for him to retrieve. Between the two, that half hour went by quickly.

I didn't know Shawn except to see him at church - always busy! Last Christmas your family sat in front of us at Immanuel and he kept turning around to smile at me ♥️ You all are in my prayers for God's comfort and peace.

This was just a few short weeks ago on Easter. I remember telling the kids to pretend the big swing was a pirate ship and swinging them high and all four of them laughing so hard. I remember that day Shawn woke up from his nap and was a little bit groggy/crabby while he started to wake up and I sat next to him at the kitchen table and handed him a cookie and he started to cheer up. Then Kent walked in and his whole face lit up. He put his hands over his eyes and I asked Kent, “Hey, do you know where Shawn went?” And Kent was like, “No idea, where’s Shawn?” And he moved his hands so fast and did the BIGGEST smile. And then he went outside to crash the baby bikes into the tree with Ollie. It was such a fun day and our family days won’t be the same without him. 💔 

One of our favorite memories shared with Shawny was at the Risen Christ Lutheran church trunk or treat. He and Kaylynn climbed up the bouncy house slide with a little help from Sam and Asher over & over & over. Their enthusiasm never tired! Shawny gave the big boys a laugh by running around all over at full speed. The bruises he earned by sometimes running into things like a tough little guy were worn like a badge of honor. 

Every memory I have of little Shawn, he had the sweetest smile on his face.  When we saw each other last we explored together. I’ll never forget that precious time he gave me. That memory brings a smile to my face.  It has to make you proud knowing that he’s making people happy from above. 
I’m so sorry that I couldn’t be there to honor him. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain you have in your hearts. 💔 Please know that you three have been and continue to be in my thoughts.

Shawn was a "little Kent". I did not have the pleasure of spending much time with him, but I loved all the Facebook posts and photos. His smile was infectious and his zeal for life was uplifting.  I imagine him running through heaven and exclaiming, "Wow! Look at this!" Run on, Shawn.

Your sweet little boy was a joy to see in the pickup line at school.  He showed me his toys and talked with me each time I saw him. It always brought a smile to my face.  Your family continues to be in my prayers.  I know our loving Savior has you wrapped in his comforting arms.  

The first time I met Shawn was at Tiger Tip Off before school started for the big kids…not a shy bone in that boy’s body! He was so excited & happy bouncing around the room. I got to see him every once in awhile in the mornings at drop off & one thing I always noticed was his love & adoration for his big sister! 

I loved getting to babysit Shawn and playing with him and the rest of the kids. Even as a baby he was always the happiest little guy, so laid-back and chill and smiley. 

So precious and happy. Shawny will forever be in our hearts. 

We got Shawny this tire pillow for his second birthday. He really seemed to love it! Here he is eating a ring pop while laying on it. 

This photo looks like they are saying/thinking "why is Aunt Anna still taking our photo" Lol. 

Shawn climbed right up on Uncle Jordan- happy as a clam to be sitting all cozy in his lap. 

We love and miss our nephew so much. He was a bright shining light. A ball of positive energy.

On our visit a year ago I shared some tootsie roll pops that we had in the car. Shawn was so happy I felt like I had given him an expensive gift! His joy over a sucker gave me a joy🥰

Shawn and Oliver, best friends and shenanigans experts from day one. ❤️ They were always smiling when they were together. 

I remember when he first started to come to Sunday School he did not want to be there it only took 2 times and then he would be at the door waiting for me, and very disappointed if we had no Class that day. I will miss his beautiful and mischievous smile.  He was so fun and filled with love.  Miss Vixie. 

I remember coming over and picking him up and spinning him around until I was exhausted and him just ready to go again right away. Such an energetic and happy kid! He’ll be missed but he’s in a better place now. Deepest condolences.

I remember that Shawn loved Spider-Man and hot wheels cars.

Oh Maria and Kent I know God is holding you right now I remember when he was born and shortly after Maria broke her ankle and was in a cast with Katelyn only 3 
I came over to help where I was needed and he was such a sweet baby you both were so busy with selling and buying a new home but he just went along with whatever you needed to do.
