Molly Christine Dahl, 94, of The Fountains in Bettendorf, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Roy Arthur Dahl, 81, of Sparta, Tennessee, passed away May 12, 2004 in Tennessee. A joint celebration of their life Lutheran memorial service, led by Rev. Amy Diller, will be held at 2:30pm, Saturday, November 4th at Weerts Funeral Home, 3625 Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. There will be a Celebration of Life reception with food and beverages following the service from 3:30 to 6:00 at the Fountains Main Building Theater Room, 3752 Thunder Ridge Road, Bettendorf. The Josh Duffey Jazz Quartet will accompany the reception. All attendees of the memorial service are also invited to the reception. Memorials may be made in their name to the Arbor Day Foundation.
Molly was born on September 28, 1923 to Kristian and Olga Woie in Duluth, MN. She was a homemaker, but also worked as a secretary, Welcome Wagon hostess, and as a real-estate agent. Molly graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1941 and later attended secretarial school. Molly was an active member of the Storelva Lodge of the Sons of Norway. In her younger years, she loved to draw, play bridge, encourage and nurture her two children as a stay-at-home Mom, and spend time in her garden.
Roy was born on October 5, 1921 to Carl and Tekla Dahl in Duluth, MN. Roy proudly served his country with the United States Army Air Corps (Force) during World War II in Italy, where he learned about meteorology. After the war, he used the GI Bill and graduated from the University of Chicago, earning his B.S. degree in Meteorology. He served as a meteorologist with the United States Weather Service. During his years in the Weather Service, he was assigned to the southern region, where he worked in Washington, D.C., Nashville, Memphis, Shreveport, Birmingham, and Atlanta. Highlights of his career include serving as the Meteorologist in Charge in Shreveport, LA, and as the Chief Forecaster at the (then) Hurricane Control Center in Atlanta, GA. He attended reunions with his Army Air Corps buddies, and was an avid golfer.
Roy and Molly were married on June 7, 1947 in Duluth, MN, and had two children. After their retirement Molly and Roy started a twenty-acre tree farm in Sparta, TN where they also raised goats and chickens. They had a five-acre vegetable garden and sold produce at the local farmer’s market. They loved each other very much, and shared fifty seven devoted years of marriage together.
They are survived by their children: Dr. Christine Dahl (Dan Bensink) and Edward Dahl (Mary Tibbetts); Sisters-in-law Marion Woie and Elaine Dahl, nieces and nephews Karin (Mike and Sofia) Santoro, Connie Dahl/Brad Harwood, Carl (Marie) Dahl, Geoff (Karin) Woie, Barbara (San) Horton, Marcia (Brian) Robertson, and a host of cousins and relatives both in the United States and in Norway. Molly is preceded in death by her parents and brother Carl Woie. Roy is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Bernard and Judge Harold Dahl.
